The HiRES Locator system, developed by HIGHVOLT, is a specialized equipment for the breakdown localization and monitoring of power cables. The system provides immediate localization by automatically evaluating the travelling waves generated by the breakdown event, allowing for accurate determination of the fault position. This effectively reduces maintenance costs and avoids secondary damage or additional aging of the cable caused by repeated electrical stress from further testing. Its applications are versatile, covering factory testing, on-site testing, and long-term online monitoring for land and submarine cables with lengths up to 200 km. The hardware consists of a transient recorder and a decoupling unit, featuring a high sampling rate of up to 250 MS/s and 14-bit resolution to ensure the precision of data analysis. Furthermore, the system software can be integrated into existing testing platforms or operate as a stand-alone device, while also supporting remote diagnostic services via the Remote and Diagnostics Access (RDA) module.
